Liberty Mutual and Allstate Usage-Based Insurance Comparison

Aside from standard coverage options and add-ons, Liberty Mutual and Allstate offer usage-based insurance policies. These telematics insurance programs track your driving behaviors and may give you discounts based on how safely you drive.

Liberty Mutual’s program is called RightTrack®, and Allstate’s is called Drivewise®. The programs are similar, but with Liberty Mutual, the type of device used to track driving habits varies by location. Drivers in most states use a mobile app, but those in New York use a plug-in device. In some states, Liberty Mutual uses a tag that goes in your car and is linked to the mobile app.

The table below shows a more in-depth comparison between the two usage-based insurance programs.

These programs may help you save on your auto insurance premium if you drive less than most people or you’re confident that you’re a safe driver. If you have a long commute or live in a high-stress driving environment, these programs may not be worth it.

Allstate Milewise

Allstate offers another usage-based insurance product called Allstate Milewise®. This pay-per-mile insurance program allows you to influence how much you pay for coverage. It comes with the same coverage and claims service, and it could be a good option if you don’t drive often.

Milewise uses a plug-in device that tracks how many miles you drive, which you can look at on your mobile device. It then applies a per-mile charge that you pay in addition to a daily rate. Milewise is available in 21 states.
