FSU baseball wins one over Georgia Tech; will resume final game on Saturday due to lightning delay (2024)

Florida State secured its sixth ACC series win of the year with an 11-3 victory over Georgia Tech Friday afternoon and led 7-6 in the seventh inning of the second game that was suspended due to lightning.

The game will resume Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

At 17-11 in the conference and 39-13 overall, FSU currently sits as the three-seed in next week’s ACC Championship.

In game one, Florida State used an eight-run third inning to beat the Yellow Jackets 11-3 and clinch the series. Tied 1-1 entering the frame, Jaime Ferrer hit a three-run home run, all nine Seminoles reached base – including eight with a hit – and Max Williams added a three-run double to pull away.

Cam Smith had three hits in the game, his fifth straight game with multiple hits.

Carson Dorsey (5-3) matched a career high with 6.0 innings pitched, allowing three runs. Florida State is 6-1 in Dorsey’s seven starts.

In game two, FSU broke a tie in the bottom of the seventh inning before the game was halted due to lightning. Florida State leads 7-6 with two outs.

Georgia Tech led 5-0 after three innings before FSU stormed back with five runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth. James Tibbs III broke a 5-5 tie with a solo home run in the fifth inning, the 24th of the season and the 51stof his career.

After Georgia Tech plated an unearned run in the top of the seventh, Smith beat a throw at the plate on a Marco Dinges groundball to give FSU the lead again.

  • Max Williams hit his eighth home run of the season to start the fourth inning. FSU has hit 99 home runs on the year and has at least one in 48 of 53 games, including 27 of the last 28.
  • FSU has 44 more home runs than 2023 (55), the fourth-largest increase from 2023 in the country.
  • Freshman John Abraham threw a career-high 3.2 innings. He did not allow a hit.
  • Ferrer threw a runner out at second base to end the seventh inning, his third outfield assist of the year.
  • Daniel Cantu was hit by a pitch for the 45thtime in his career.
