Has Fantasmic returned to Disneyland? ›

Fantasmic returned to Disneyland on May 24. In the new version of Fantasmic!, Disneyland skips the dragon and replaces it - literally - with an elevated Maleficent scene. The storyline of the show is the same, but the final battle between Mickey and Maleficent no longer includes the dragon.

The original "Fantasmic!" show opened in Frontierland in 1992 and featured fireworks, Disney characters, live actors, water effects, pyrotechnics, lasers, music, audio-animatronics, searchlights, decorated boat floats and mist screen projections.

Guests who are interested in watching Fantasmic! without purchasing a dining package will find open seating around Rivers of America in Frontierland. Premium seating will be sectioned off and cast members will be on hand to direct you to general audience seating.

A fire erupted Saturday night during Disneyland's Fantasmic fireworks and light show, forcing throngs of stunned fans to evacuate the area. “Fantasmic!” returns Friday. It will feature a few key changes, including the return of an extended segment focused on “Peter Pan.” It also won't have a dragon.

The new “Heartbeat of New Orleans” joins Queenie and the Jambalaya Jazz Band as temporary replacements for “Fantasmic” while the popular nighttime spectacular remains on hiatus following the stunning fire that engulfed the show's 45-foot-tall animatronic dragon in April.

River Belle Terrace has two packages - a standard package includes a voucher reserved viewing area with ground seating, and a premium package that includes seating from the restaurant terrace during your dinner. Disney has announced that Fantasmic! will not return to the Rivers of America at Disneyland until spring 2024. When the show does return it will not feature the Maleficent dragon figure that was the show piece that caught on fire earlier this year that led to the closure.
